We engage actors and theatre artists who are skilled professionals to perform plays ranging from classic to modern because of our enthusiasm to produce spaces that leave the audience touched and even changed by the experience of the production. We hold ourselves to high standards, seeking to uncover the truth in each screenplay and aiming for perfection in every show. Moving from our original location, a restored storefront, in April 2013, we shifted to a former rug cleaner, which was transformed into an 80-seat theatre and lobby. Students of all ages are welcome in our seminars and workshops, and our teaching goal is at the heart of all we do. Every season, two of our performances include student actors in critical parts. These kids share the stage with professional performers and are paid the same as everyone else. There is a strong sense of community among the actors, as the students learn from their mentors while the experts are motivated by the kids’ dedication. Annapolis Opera

The Annapolis Opera Company was founded in 1972 by a group of young performers from the Annapolis Summer Garden Theater. Soprano Martha Wright, an active performer and producer, turned down the part in Gian-Carlo Menotti’s The Medium but decided to produce the opera and, more crucially for the future of Annapolis Opera, to take on the post of executive director. Performing in this first show, Martha Wright was elected the first Annapolis Opera’s president. From the beginning, the Annapolis community was on board with the enterprise. Seven years after its first performance was held at the Hilton Hotel ballroom, which was also where the group’s first performance was born, it secured a permanent home in the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts as a founding resident company in 1979, which partnership remains today.
