Brunswick Heritage Museum

The Museum has been preserving Brunswick’s history for almost 45 years. At the same time, it was known as Berlin during the Civil War because of its proximity to the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal; Brunswick was established in 1890. Baltimore and Ohio Railroad started construction of the 5-mile rail yard in Brunswick to transform the town into a corporate town with more than 5k residents! As a whole, the BHM may be seen as two separate museums. The B&O Railroad erected a village on the second level of the Museum’s displays. We have a 1700 square foot HO Scale model railroad on the third level depicting the B&O Metropolitan Subdivision from Brunswick’s train yard to Union Station in Washington, DC, shown in miniature. When the layout was renovated in 2007, several additional interactive components were included, making the model railroad come to life. The Brunswick Visitors Centre is located here for the National Park Service’s Chesapeake & Ohio National Historical Park. Photos and interactives tell the narrative of the C&O Canal’s history in fascinating detail. The goal of the Brunswick Heritage Museum’s vibrant presentations and events for history and rail enthusiasts of all ages is to convey the narrative of Brunswick’s past and present. Website

The Original Playhouse Children’s Museum

When Ellen Przybocki and her daughter went to a children’s museum together, she decided to make one of her own for their son, Frederick. Her husband Mark needed a little persuading, but once he understood she was serious, he lent a hand in making her idea come true. Together, they turned a home into a learning environment for children. A Frederick County Public Schools teacher for 17 years, Ellen is retiring. She began her career teaching as a high school special education teacher and finished it as a reading interventionist working with children in grades K-5. Among her favourite qualities about elementary school students is their zest for life and eagerness to learn. Learning should be fun and interactive, according to Ellen, who thinks this is the best way to retain information long term. The idea of the Original Playhouse, which caters to youngsters between the ages of three and eight, is embodied here. For the time you spend with us, we want you and your kid to be able to play together or observe while they play with their siblings or friends. In the process of playing, they’ll acquire essential lessons about the world around them. To get an idea of how they see the world, immerse yourself in their fantasy realm. Optimism, pleasure, and honesty rule the roost in most children’s minds. That’s the best way to start the day! Website
