Best Hiking Trails around me in Calvert County
Calvert Cliffs State Park
Calvert County’s Chesapeake Bay coastline is dominated by the huge cliffs that gave their name to Calvert Cliffs State Park. Over 10 to 20 million years ago, these dunes were produced when Southern Maryland was submerged under a warm, shallow sea. The sea level dropped and revealed the cliffs, which eroded. It is possible to see the bones of marine creatures as large as small aircraft preserved in the rocky cliffs. There are 13 miles of hiking paths, a sandy beach, unusual fossils, an accessible recycled tyre playground and fishing in Calvert Cliffs State Park. Small buses cost $10, and big buses cost $20 in daily usage fees (with an extra $2 for out-of-state residents). Only cash is accepted. Website
