Maryland Ensemble Theatre
We are a professional, collaborative theatre group committed to fostering a love of the arts in our community by providing brave, relevant, and accessible shows that encourage people to feel, think, and laugh more. MET aspires to provide a healthy atmosphere for our times and our community where artists and audience members may enjoy an exciting, emotional, and thought-provoking theatrical experience. Plays that are both approachable and challenging are on the MET’s season lineup, and it’s no surprise that it’s drawing in theatregoers from all over the country. Forging a bridge between artists and audiences, engaging underserved groups, and fostering a new generation of theatre artists by fostering an open exchange of ideas and giving chances for lifelong learning, the MET ensemble contributes to the cultural vibrancy of our area. Artistic venues that are non-discriminatory and reflect our whole community are at the heart of the Maryland Ensemble Theatre’s mission. We must ensure that our venues are welcoming and inclusive to everyone. To develop a genuinely inclusive theatre, we need to look back at our prior behaviours and understand that they didn’t always feed the deeper work and advancement that was necessary. Diversity, equality, and inclusion are values that we strive to uphold to better represent the society in which we live. Continuous, deliberate, and developing efforts are required of us. Website
Weinberg Center for the Arts
Tivoli opened its doors to the public on December 23, 1926. The Theatre, which cost more than $350,000 to build, was Frederick’s second-largest tower. In addition to the 16-foot movie screen and a big stage with 50 sets of pulleys for scenery, the Tivoli could support live events with an orchestra pit and a complete complement of dressing rooms. In contrast to other neighbourhood theatres, the Tivoli was one of the few that preserved an air of sophistication. Gold-buttoned coats and tuxedos were worn by ushers and managers, respectively, for the event. An opening-night sold-out audience sat in leather chairs surrounded by crystal chandeliers, marble and silk wall coverings, and leather seats to view various short features and silent movies. Website

New Spire Arts Stages
A gift from the Ausherman Family Foundation sparked the creation of New Spire Arts in 2016. The old Board of Education offices and Art-O-Matic venue at 115 E Church St and the previous Cultural Arts Center at 15 W Patrick/15 N Market had already been purchased by the Ausherman Family Foundation. As the company’s first Creative Director, Elizabeth Lucas led the charge. First, New Spire Arts hired arts consulting company AMS Planning and Research to assist the organization and “kitchen cabinet” of experts put together an organizational and facility strategic plan in early 2017. As we developed our organization’s purpose, vision, and objectives with the assistance of AMS, we were not alone. While this was going on, the education building’s first floor was given a simple facelift in preparation for summer activities. 115 E Church St opened its doors to the public for the first time in June 2017 for our initial workshops and summer sessions. New Spire Arts hired Ziger/Snead Architects in the summer of 2017 to create a new performing arts complex at 15 W Patrick St. In January of this year, we began construction on the New Spire Stages. MLK Weekend 2019 saw the opening of a new black box theatre and community gathering place. The education department of New Spire Arts has grown and expanded over the last two years, adding new programmes and creative genres. Many local and regional artists, arts groups, and non-profits have collaborated with us to deliver high-quality programmes to individuals of every age and ability. As of 2019, New Spire Arts and the YMCA of Frederick County have formed a partnership to focus on the newly renovated performing arts centre, New Spire Stages, leveraging its structure and strength.
